Priya & Daniel: A Garden Party in Hampshire

8 min read  ·  August 2025

Priya and Daniel met at a friend's wedding in 2021. They were married four years later in a Hampshire country house garden that felt, to everyone present, like the setting their love story had always been moving towards.

130 guests, a clear-span marquee on the South Downs, a colour palette of sage and champagne, and a celebration planned entirely through Petticora from the first venue search to the last vendor confirmed.

The Venue Search

"We knew we wanted a garden," Priya says. "Not a garden as part of a hotel — an actual private garden, somewhere that felt like it belonged to someone." She used Petticora's Venue Matchmaker: Hampshire or Surrey, garden/outdoor ceremony, private hire, 100–150 guests, budget under £8,000.

The matchmaker returned fourteen options. Priya shortlisted three, visited two, and booked the one they're now sitting outside of, fifteen months later, the day after their wedding.

"The second venue I visited — this one — I cried walking up the driveway. I knew immediately. We paid the deposit that afternoon."

The Palette and Style

Daniel describes the brief in three words: "garden party, grown up." The colour palette — sage green, champagne, ivory, and touches of warm terracotta — was set by their florist in the second consultation meeting.

The Flowers

All British-grown, all seasonal. Garden roses in cream and soft blush. Foxgloves from a local grower. Eucalyptus, trailing ivy, and feathery grasses. Priya's bouquet was a loose, unstructured armful of roses and foxgloves tied with champagne silk ribbon. "I didn't want to carry something that looked precious. I wanted to carry something that looked like I'd just gathered it from the garden."

The Day

The ceremony took place under a mature oak tree at the far end of the garden — legally binding, as the venue holds an outdoor ceremony licence. 130 chairs arranged in a wide semicircle. A string duo playing quietly as guests were seated. Priya's entrance to an acoustic arrangement of a Radiohead song playing when they first danced together in 2022.

"People weren't expecting that song. You could feel the moment when they recognised it — this ripple of surprise and then complete emotion. That moment was worth all of it."

The Reception

Four long family-style tables rather than rounds — a deliberate choice for a communal, feasting atmosphere. Sharing boards to start, slow-roasted lamb with summer vegetables as main, and a dessert table of individual tarts, pavlovas, and a champagne and elderflower cake from a local bakery.

"I was worried the long tables would feel formal. They didn't — they felt like a feast. People were passing food to each other, pouring wine for people they'd never met. The room talked to itself all night."

— Daniel

The Evening

A four-piece band, then a DJ until 1am. The first dance was to a live version of the Radiohead song — arranged specifically for the band at Priya and Daniel's request. "Seventy people on the dancefloor for our first dance. It was extraordinary."

What They'd Tell Other Couples

Priya: "Use Petticora properly — trust the filters and the curation. We found every single vendor through the platform and every single one was excellent."

Daniel: "Prioritise ruthlessly. We spent a lot on catering and photography. The things we spent on are the things we remember."

Both: "It goes faster than you think. Take thirty seconds at random moments during the day just to look around the room at the people you love and feel it. Be present for the experience."
